Pleasanton Mom Eliminates “Mommy Guilt” and Makes the Most of Life’s Traditions and Rituals
PLEASANTON, CA—When Pleasanton mom of two, Carolyn Simmons was struggling to meet the challenges of her modern, busy lifestyle and still organize her family’s memories and keepsakes in powerful, meaningful ways, she developed what she calls “Mommy guilt.” With a talent for documenting and photographing her family, she soon had an abundance of creative pictures and mementos stashed away in boxes in an overcrowded closet. But what good are photos if no one ever sees them?
As the family chronicler, Simmons had faithfully preserved, through pictures and mementos creatively displayed in scrapbook albums, her son’s milestones and memories during his preschool years. However, when her daughter was born, Simmons found she no longer had the time to craft elaborate albums as she had previously done. With each year that passed, she became more and more intimidated by the growing number of photographs. “My poor daughter had no albums to look at that had pictures of her in them,” Carolyn remembers. “Talk about feeling guilty and like a bad mom!”
Last month, however, this work-at-home mom discovered Once Upon a Family, a Irvine, California-based company that simplified the scrapbooking process and helped alleviate her feelings of guilt. “Once Upon A Family makes preserving and creating memories so doable and simple!” Simmons beams. She liked the company so well that she signed on as an independent representative.
“I joined Once Upon a Family because I wanted to create a better family life for my loved ones, and I wanted to share the vision with others,” Simmons explains. “One of the first products I purchased was The Birthday Book. Literally, in a matter of minutes, I was able to create a special album just for my daughter. She was so tickled to finally see her own pictures in an album! From that moment on, the Mommy guilt was gone and I was hooked.”
Traditions, rituals, and celebrations create the sense of togetherness that families crave. Many people like Simmons want to make family events meaningful to everyone involved, but don’t know how. Once Upon A Family’s corporate goal is to educate them.
“We spend time and money doing things that are not really important,” says company founder, Lorle Campos, “and [we] often miss the opportunity to do the little things that make all the difference. All we need is a little guidance…we need to understand what’s worth doing and what’s not, and to find ways to do more for our families in less time.” That’s what Once Upon a Family consultants like Simmons are trained to do best.
