Chaparro moved to El Paso, Texas as a girl to live with her grandmother and learn the English language. She ended up staying to finish high school and attend college at the University of Texas at El Paso. Upon graduation from UT with a degree in Marketing and Computer Information Systems, Chaparro received an offer from JPMorgan Chase to move to Houston. She accepted gladly and worked for them for almost three years as a Business Analyst.
The birth of her first child changed everything. "All I wanted to do after that," Chaparro remembers, "was to spend time with her. But I knew I needed to have something to keep me growing on a professional level. And I wanted to contribute some money to running the household." With the encouragement and support of other work-at-home moms whom Chaparro met online through MomPack.com, a cooperative marketing site for women, MexTrends was begun in June 2004. This young mom had successfully found a way to stay home with her child and still earn an income.
The lovely handcrafted earrings, necklaces, bracelets and pendants, along with the pewter tableware and serving pieces that Chaparro offers through her online store, show her concern for quality. The purchasing trips to nearby cities in Mexico allow her to offer items at lower than average prices, too. "I have always been proud of who I am," she states simply. "And I love being able to bring a little piece of Mexico to anywhere in the world with access to a computer."
